Nightlife by Jack Ellis
Rating:
The city's vagrants are disappearing one by one, and this vampire is getting careless. He has left a witness who is determined to hunt him down until the end. The witness has enlisted a band of hunters from the least likely places and is getting closer and closer to the vampire. However, the vampire has some tricks of his own to avoid certain destruction and he doesn't hesitate to use all of his abilities to scare off the witness... This is a well written novel with well thought out, believable characters. It's a vampire novel with a twist; the vampire is fearful, not feared, unlike a traditional novel. This vampire fears his prey and what they have learned about him. Jack Ellis has chosen not to use the traditional "bite" style of vampire. He has created a whole new way to consume his prey. The confrontation is well written and contains all of the age-old methods of killing a vampire. I don't want to ruin it for you, but try this one out on a lonely night.
